Our classroom is always buzzing with energy and excitement. Students are moving from one activity to another in different spaces throughout the classroom. During independent math and reading centers, students can work at tables, on the floor, or standing up.
I teach twenty-one kindergarten students who come from a variety of backgrounds.
The one thing they all have in common is that they have so much energy and enthusiasm each and every day! They are kind, caring, and love learning new things. My students all have different personalities and interests that make them unique which is why our classroom environment should match their unique styles! I teach at a classical magnet school, within a public school district. 2/3 of the students at the school are local kids in the neighborhood and the other 1/3 are lottery winners from around the district. I absolutely love my school and the students who attend.
My Project
I am requesting 6 balance balls and 8 wobble cushions so they can fully engage their bodies and minds in learning activities!
All of my kindergarten students are full of energy! They work better when they can get up and move, tap their feet or work in a different space to redirect their energy and focus. Because of this, I have introduced alternative seating options in my classroom. So far, I have introduced wiggle cushions and ball chairs but there are only a few, so the students have to take turns and not everyone gets a chance to use the items each day. When this project is fulfilled, I will have enough items for every child to use. This will allow more opportunities for the children to utilize these fantastic tools. By activating their core and providing them with something to balance and wiggle on, their bodies will be more engaged in the activities which will allow their minds to be more engaged in learning!
This project will finally allow us to fulfill our dream of providing choice and tools for the students to fully engage in each and every activity throughout the school day.
