My class of 26 very diverse learners is a whirlwind of fun! We are located in a fast growing suburb of Connecticut!
This class is very inquisitive, and love to collaborate with each other on projects from writing speeches to run for class office, to creating and building robots in stem.
This class size is large with many different learning styles and needs. Although many are very different in learning styles, learning needs, economics all of my students have the motivation to learn to their best potential! I am very proud of how well they try to manage their desire to be social and to be a student.
My Project
Research has shown that the use of flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices on where they sit that will allow them to be more productive. There are several times during the day the students are working independently either alone or with a small group. At this time students have the option to not sit at their traditional desks. Presently my students can work on the floor, at different tables, they can sit under tables with clip boards, or simply sit or lay on the floor with a clip board. I feel that when students are comfortable they are more on task and motivated to learn. I have noticed amazing differences in my students attention to task when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The comfy floor seats and the lap desks will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
