Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You can't build a house without hammers or nails. I cannot motivate our future doctors, scientists, and engineers to explore the world around them without the proper tools!
In addition, many of my 24 students are Second Language Learners.
I want to stretch their abilities beyond what even they can imagine for themselves! These are students that have overcome language barriers, economic hardship, and a profound lack of resources, but still continue to excel. It is my daily mission to do what I can to ensure they all have the skills required to be successful and outstanding members of society!
My Project
My students are expected to sit in a classroom for about 8 hours a day. This is not as easy as it sounds for some students. In this world that we live in, where everything is go-go-go it is not fair to expect my students to sit still for so long. As a teacher this task is also sometimes hard to accomplish.
In my diverse classroom, flexible seating,such as Wobble Chairs and balance balls, would be important for my students who are experiencing stress or just can not stay still and need the time to move around.
Recently, I have welcomed students that have been displaced because of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. These students are dealing with lots of changes and challenges. By providing these different types of flexible seating, my students will have the opportunity to create a more calming learning environment. It will allow my students to fidget if needed and give the students a sense of control.
