Do you have fond memories as a reader? Did you ever get hooked on a book that you just couldn't put down? Do you LOVE reading? That is my goal and passion as a first-grade teacher...to instill a life-long love of reading.
In my first grade classroom, you will see students enthusiastically self-selecting books and reading in every nook and cranny in the classroom.
I teach in a supported first grade classroom. My students come from diverse backgrounds with various learning styles and reading levels. They are a wonderful group of first graders who are enthusiastic and energetic learners.
I hope to provide my students with the opportunity to have flexible seating and comfortable places to read and work. First grade students need to build a solid foundation in reading skills to not only become successful in school and in their future, but to also establish a true love of reading. Giving my students comfortable seating choices will help them achieve that.
My Project
During reading workshop, my students spread out throughout the classroom choosing the best book nook to "get lost in their book." Making those spaces more comfortable will encourage a passion for reading, keep them motivated, and make reading time all the more enjoyable. Not only will my students be able to use flexible seating choices during reading, but they will also use be able to use them throughout the entire day.
Flexible seating gives my students the power of choice; an opportunity to take control of their own learning.
When students are given a choice, their level of engagement and enthusiasm dramatically increases.
