My students live in a rural part of Central Louisiana. Students in this community are low-to-middle income, however realize at such a young age that an education is absolutely necessary to make it in our world today. Students range from ages 10-12, such a good age range to instill the importance of lifelong learning.
With the current move to flexible seating, my classroom is in need of an update.
Flexible seating allows a classroom to be student-centered and produce an environment conducive to all learners. Currently, the classroom has undergone a few changes with seating. However, it isn't complete.
More flexible seating will provide all students to have a seat that best suits their needs and wants. Students will feel comfortable and perform better.
My Project
Flexible seating materials will make a difference in my students' learning. Flexible seating includes alternative seating and provides students with the choice of what they'd like to sit on. If our students feel comfortable, they're more likely going to work harder. Some of the seats allow students to stand and others allow them to sit on the ground. Not all students are comfortable with the traditional method of chairs and desks.
Students that are provided with the opportunity and choice of where and what they'd like to sit on produces a shared environment, thus students are more likely to take risks in their learning.
Through taking risks, students will flourish academically and the greatest learning will occur. Flexible seats and tables will provide a student-centered environment for all students.
