My Students

My students are fun, energetic lovers of learning. My students continue working to increase their time on task and their stamina as learners. Their curiosity is avid, admirable, and inspiring.

They attend a suburban public school, grades 1 through 5, in Western Massachusetts.

All students receive free breakfast and lunch, and many come from families who are considered at poverty level.

Many of my students are second language learners. The students in my classroom are from many different countries; this diversity is embraced and honored. Others have been identified as learners with special academic, communication, social, and emotional needs. This diverse classroom is a community of learners. These dynamic students bring their skills and stories to my classroom each day. Students continue learning to embrace the ideas of accepting and appreciating others and to be actively involved in their education. Time is spent helping students discover their strengths and needs as learners, as well as developing their self-advocacy skills.

My Project

I would like to have available a variety of seating in my second grade classroom. New balance ball seats will provide my students the opportunity to work and wiggle. My second grade students are full of energy, and we are constantly moving and working throughout the day.

My students work together in small groups, and having choices in seating will foster community learning and problem solving skills.

I want to provide my students with opportunities to investigate, explore, and experiment in a classroom environment that meets the needs of all types of learners. Being comfortable can make a difference in so many ways!
