Flexible seating is an important part of modern classrooms, which my room is lacking. I teach and amazing group of middle school students. My students come from diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and in turn have various learning styles to accommodate. Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing assignments because they cannot focus.
I want my students to be able to channel their energy while they are learning.
I want to provide a variety of alternative seating options to harness students focus and love of learning.
My students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in my room such as: sitting under tables with clipboards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
I am looking for alternative seating options for my students such as stability balls, wobble stools, fidget bands and wobble cushions to help my students stay focused during class!
