Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a 3rd year teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Because the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with a classroom they can call their own.
My students are creative, unique and empowered to learn!
My fourth graders love using technology in our classroom. Technology is a huge part of our classroom! Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their personal growth. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our eager, technology based learners to continue on a path of academic success.
My Project
Flexible seating has been on my mind since I began teaching 3 years ago! I am a young teacher with a vision.
Flexible seating will give my students autonomy, physical health, comfort, collaboration, and community.
The different seating options such as the 4 piece "couch" will help my students learn how to collaborate, and communicate in a different environment other than their desks. Getting slowly away from traditional desks, and moving toward collaborative communities, I'm hoping will increase students' creativity and drive for learning.
I've also asked for exercise balls for my students who need movement throughout their day. This will help specific students stay focused, and promote multi-tasking!
The counter height stools and balancing bars will be a great addition to my classroom because it will give my students the autonomy to choose where they would like to learn that day. Allowing students the choice and power to choose where they want to learn will hopefully lead to more intentional learning.
