I teach a kindergarten, first, and second grade bridge class in Brooklyn. I have twelve students with special needs. Our school has a 50% poverty rate. My students love to read, write, and do art projects. They also enjoy doing science experiments and learning about the world around them. They are very hard-working, full of questions, and they come ready to learn every day. My students are an inspiration to me because they are always full of energy and ready for new challenges.
My Project
Do you remember how hard it was to sit up straight at your desk in school? I teach a class full of students who have many different needs for how they work most successfully. They need a variety of seating options so they can concentrate on learning.
If they have the choice of a balance ball, wobble stools and beanbag loungers, they will feel more comfortable to focus their energy in our class work.
This will also help my sensory seeking students to feel less fidgety if they know they can work however they choose. In a busy multigrade classroom, we need to have the right set up so the children can work, create, and learn every day.
