Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come into the classroom ready to learn every day. I work in a city school with many students at or below the poverty level. My students have special needs that require special services to meet their physical and emotional needs.

My students are in a self-contained special education classroom which means they are together in one room most of the day.

They are friendly and loving but require special assistance throughout the day to be successful in school.

My Project

My class consists of 11 special education students who require special items in the classroom to be successful in school. Many of my students are unable to sit at a desk and need seats which are soft and close to the floor to prevent falls and injury.

We have carpet time every day, where we do our morning calendar work and read books.

Many of my students have to sit in wheelchairs or directly on the floor which is not comfortable for them and results in them not being able to pay attention or stay through the entire morning lesson.
