My students need flexible seating options that include: Beanbags, Wobble Chairs, Soft Seats, Comfy Floor Seats and Balance Balls. These different seating options will allow students to feel comfortable while learning.
My students are Special Education Kindergarten students who attend a suburban Title 1 school. These students have a wide variety of physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Despite all of these challenges, they still come to school with smiles on their faces, full of questions, and ready to learn. Each day they inspire me and everyone they come in contact with to be the best they can be!
I am lucky each and everyday to be their teacher and hope to inspire them with new activities and experiences so they can be the best they can be.
These students love to inquire, learn from their friends, and learn in the most comfortable environment for them. In order for all students to be successful: we vary learning strategies, incorporate group work, complete different hands-on projects and make sure ALL of their needs are met. They are an incredible group and each year I consider myself to be so lucky to have the opportunity to watch them grow over the year.
My Project
Students do not all learn the same, they need individualized lessons and need to be challenged differently, so why are they all expected to sit in the same type of chair while they learn? My students need flexible seating options to allow themselves to be the most comfortable they can be while learning at their own pace.
Adding Bean Bags and Soft Floor Seats allow for a comfortable learning environment during individual work time so they can work in places like the library, a cozy corner, or wherever they find the most comfortable.
Balance Balls and Wobble Chairs will be used during group time so students have the opportunity to wiggle around in their seat without disrupting others.
These types of seating will be used appropriately during class time and individual time. This will promote student growth in more ways than anyone can imagine. It will teach them to be themselves while learning new material and stretching their mind.
