Our classroom is a K-8th grade moderate to severe disabilities community. I have one kindergartener, two first graders, three third graders, one fifth grader, and one seventh grader in my class. They love to play interactive learning games and listen to me read stories. I've come into this room as a new teacher in the middle of the year, so gathering resources and things for the classroom was hard with such little time to prepare.
Most of my students are low income and since our district is so small, funds aren't always available to fit the needs of my students.
Despite this, however, they are eager to learn. They are super sweet kiddos who love to please adults around them and are friends with everyone in the school. We aren't a perfect classroom, but with time and effort I think we can make this the perfect space for my students to succeed!
My Project
Anyone who has worked in special education knows that sometimes kids are fidgety. They can't sit still, sit on their knees in the chair, and sometimes can't focus on the content we are working on because their bodies are moving and shifting.
My students need some flexible seating to help them move around while working without disrupting the instruction and their learning!
These wobble stools and the exercise ball chair will help improve not only instruction time but also my students' engagement and education.
I would love to use these during small groups, one on one work, read alouds, and even work centers/task boxes. These tools would enrich my classroom and teaching. I can't wait to use them!
