Ms. Berris from Ferndale MI is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the portable lap desk to be able to work comfortably when sitting in the floor. The balance chair, bean bag, and swivel chairs are different options of flexible seating for the students.

I teach high school special education and English. My students are amazing young adults who want to be successful. Many of them struggle in school academically and socially but try their hardest to keep up with their peers. Many are autistic, have ADHD, or a learning disability. Even with these struggles, they work hard and love learning. They are kind, caring, and compassionate young adults. They have dreams and aspirations for after high school that include college and/or trade/vocational school.
All students learn differently, and my students are no exception.
I incorporate a variety of strategies including group work, alternative seating, and options for assessments to ensure that each student's needs are met. I currently have a few flexible seating options but not enough for all the students to have options. I have noticed that those students who get to pick their seat type and location in the classroom work better and are more actively engaged.
Making sure students are comfortable is important in motivating them. Flexible seating allows for this. Students are able to make choices in their seating to best help them with learning. Every student is comfortable in different areas, and I want to have multiple options available for them. I have noticed when I give students options, they are are more engaged in learning and less disruptive of others.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
I have ordered materials in the past but missed a few key items for the students that they requested. The lap desks will allows students to work comfortably on the floor. The swivel chairs and balance chairs are beneficial to get the wiggles out. The bean bag is another option for flexible seating for them. All these options for seating will help my students be actively engaged and learning in class.
I hope these items will help my classroom and give the students options to sit so they can learn best.
