My students are special education students with various disabilities that range from ADD, Autism to specific learning disabilities. These students' needs range from mild to significant.
We are promoting student agency and self-advocacy by helping them determine and find the best position for them to learn and work in.
Some of our students like to stand, but we do not have the appropriate work space for them to do so at this time.
We are hoping, with these new options, all students' needs will be met.
My Project
This is a special education classroom where flexible seating and student choice can really help to engage student participation. Additionally, we are helping our students use self-advocacy skills to advocate for their needs and learning styles. We have chosen stackable stools and adjustable tables, so students can choose to stand or sit on the chair of their choice to accommodate their learning styles and needs. The furniture we asked for is easily adjustable and can even be changed very quickly, so students can change their seating to each task.
We received chair and table suggestions from our students and they are very excited!
