This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have 22 bright, funny, and hard-working kindergarteners. They are hungry for knowledge, books, and love. They attend a public school in an area with high-poverty. The school itself is full of amazing teachers that go above and beyond the calling for each student. The children are truly resilient as sometimes they are dealing with things that are beyond their years, and I am constantly impressed by their academic performance. Each student has experience trauma and we are learning how to deal with and move past our experiences in a positive way.
My students deserve a space that they are proud of and want to learn in.
By discovering new knowledge every day they are becoming better citizens and students. They enjoy cartoons, music, reading, math manipulatives, and educational games.
My Project
As a first year teacher I wasn't able to buy every single thing that I knew would help my students. Flexible seating is a research-based solution to helping students focus more and find more success in the classroom.
Because of the trauma my students have endured, they have trouble regulating their bodies and emotions.
The balls and wobble chairs will be used at our teacher station and at their seats, to make sure that we can focus better when we're learning our most important stuff. These new seating options will make sure that every student can succeed in our class!
