My Students

My wonderful students are in grades 9-12. All of the students I work with receive special education services. I have students with a range of disabilities in my classroom such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments such as ADHD. I teach academic support classes and I also teach self contained English classes for both 9th and 10th graders where I make content accessible by modifying the English curriculum to meet the needs of my students.

I am so lucky to be working with such motivated and dedicated students.

They bring me joy each and every day and have taught me so much in my first year of teaching. Each of my students cares deeply about doing well in school, although the environment in which they learn best varies greatly from student to student. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies into my classroom to try and meet the needs of all of my students.

My Project

All students learn differently, regardless of their abilities. Because of the many different needs of my students, not all of them learn best from sitting in traditional desks.

For my students who struggle with sitting still for an entire class period, standing desks will greatly enhance their learning, so they are up and able to move their bodies safely during instruction.

Bean bags will be beneficial for my students who do their best work while they are comfortable. During whole group instruction or independent work, I know my students will be grateful for being able to learn how they choose.

For my students who struggle with self advocacy skills, having the opportunity to let me know how they learn best will greatly improve their awareness of their own learning styles and how they are effected during instruction. Giving students the autonomy to learn how they want will give them a greater sense of ownership over their own learning.
