This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are wonderful, vibrant kids that make me smile everyday. They have a variety of disadvantages, their learning disabilities the least of their worries. All of our students live in government assisted housing, also know as, "the projects". With a low social economic status comes a variety of disadvantages. We’re working hard to make school a safe and loving environment where our students learn and a place full of resources to help their families. We are teachers who want to be here and are dedicated to inspiring and engaging the minds of our wonderful group of students. We are striving for academic rigor, community involvement, and student engagement.
My Project
These materials will help my students have a variety of choices to sit in the classroom. This helps them to feel empowered and like they have a degree of control over their environment. The different seating options will allow my students the flexibility to work in a space that's most comfortable for them. Comfortable students learn better. Children need to move. It has been proven that flexible seating gives them this option and is good for their physical health. It also gives them sensory input when needed. Speaking of sensory input, the body sox will help to regulate those sensory needs before or after any kind of transition.
