Flexible Seating for Reading Workshop

My students need flexible seating to improve focus during Reading. These surf seats will help the 100 students that I serve for Reading.

My Students

My students mostly come from low-income families. We are a tight-knit community with only one elementary school. We have a growing immigrant population with many coming from Burma and Vietnam.

I have 100 students total.

This donation will be helping many students. My students gather on the floor for the mini-lesson, and then they like to keep sitting on the floor for their differentiated independent reading assignments. This flexible seating option will work great for keeping their minds focused on their reading tasks.

My Project

My students need these surf chairs for a flexible seating option for our Reading Workshop. These seats will be used throughout the day and will allow them to easily write in their notebooks as they work on being better readers. Even wiggly 4th graders need "floor time" for maximum attention and focus. These allow the students to be on the floor while easily writing in their notebooks, working in their chromebooks, or completing their differentiated assignments on the small table part.
