Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a neighborhood school that truly is the heart of the neighborhood it serves. Our half-day Blended Preschool classroom is dedicated to not only teaching both our typically developing and students with Special Education Services academics (letters, numbers, colors, shapes), but also incorporating social and life skills (tooth brushing, hand washing, eating family-style, etc.). Our Title I school really is the backbone of the neighborhood. School events, parent nights, and after school programs are much needed and highly sought out for the students that we serve.
My students are highly diverse.
Whether developmentally, culturally, through language, or ability, all of our students need a variety of resources to truly strive in a classroom setting. We set high expectations for all of our students and strive to give them quality experiences that they may not otherwise receive. Hands-on experiences are crucial for early learners to truly understand and appreciate ideas and studies within the classroom.
My Project
I would like to bring flexible seating to my Inclusion Preschool classroom. Throughout our day, we incorporate many transitions to keep students engaged and focused. However, at whole and small group time some students still struggle to maintain their focus and calm bodies.
Through flexible seating, our students will receive needed sensory inputs that will help them focus and maintain engagement.
Students will also feel comfortable, included, and a sense of choice making their classroom experience more enjoyable, and, truly theirs! Bringing flexible seating to our classroom will help us provide a truly least restrictive environment where all of our students can learn and grow!
