This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every year, I am blessed with a fresh new class of 20 pre-kindergarten students. These students can be ages 3-4 (depending on their birthdays) and are from a variety of backgrounds. They are fun, challenging, and exciting all at the same time. When I first started college, I never ever imagined myself being a Pre-K teacher. Everyone says the Lord works in mysterious ways, and through my job, I’ve learned that to be very true. These kids drive me to be better for them and myself. I love that I grow every year because of them. A friend of mine has said “Students really won’t care unless you show them first how much you really care.” Through this project, I’m hoping to provide an opportunity to better support my kiddos and their individual needs.
My Project
These bouncy ball chairs give the students an outlet to move their bodies while staying on task. As my students are very young, their ability to pay attention for extended amounts of time hasn’t developed fully. A big problem that I’ve encountered in the past is the students get restless during computer work/center time throughout the day. Some students simply cannot sit stationary at all because of other factors. The bouncy seats will allow the students to safely and correctly manage their energy elsewhere. Four of the seats will be stationed at a center while two of the seats will remain on hand for those students that are restless.
