My Students

I love my students! I teach high school students with learning and/or behavioral disorders. Special needs kiddos have my heart, and they need extra care, the ability to have natural movement, and to feel comfortable in an environment where they are encouraged to learn. These kids have such wonderful potential, but they deserve more than what the world has given them. I’m hoping to set them up for success, and it starts in the classroom. These kids have been given the message, for years, that they are worth less than their general education peers. They need so much more! A child that knows that they are loved and valued, regardless of ability/disability, will thrive, begin to self-regulate, and learn. Please help me create this for them. They deserve it.

My Project

Special needs students with learning and behavioral difficulties often require the ability to move, to fidget, to wiggle or stand. Once they can put that energy in motion, focus and learning becomes a whole lot easier. Stand up desks, wobble stools, and ball chairs help kids to naturally move in a non-disruptive way. Specially designed furniture, to meet their needs, creates a warm and welcoming environment where they know they are valued and can educationally grow. However, we continue to use the old wooden desks that have survived for decades and designed centuries ago. Imagine how much more productive any creative mind would be if they could regulate their body and engage their mind!
