This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 7th grade math in an urban area with a diverse population of students. My students are energetic and eager to learn. I have a few students that I noticed did better standing at their desks and were frequently asking if they were allowed to work standing up. In middle school where wiggling is normal - their bodies are growing like crazy - traditional seating is confining and impacts the learning process.
My classroom is an active learning environment that requires portable seating that students of all sizes can comfortably sit in, quickly move, learn in and store at the end of the day.
My goal is to provide flexible seating that allows students to be comfortable and focused!
My Project
I want to accept and honor my students’ choices in the classroom when it comes to how they will learn best. As a teacher I find it difficult to navigate around cumbersome desks and assist my students in the traditional classroom set up.
Flexible seating allows students the choice to find a comfortable seat where they work the best and can be focused and productive.
I have chosen chairs that are properly scaled to fit the size of an individual and the table it will be used with and seating that moves easily in the classroom.
The SitWell Adjustable Stools have an adjustable seat height and will hold kids and adults. The Runtz Ball Chairs provide the benefits of a stability ball but less student misuse. Both types of seating will improve focus and productivity in the classroom. The Big Joe Lumin Chair will provide students with back support and allow students to face front and both sides.
I teach astounding students who have a real desire for learning and this endeavor will help them to be successful. Any assistance with this project will be truly appreciated by middle students!
