Welcome to our classroom where the students are always active and ready to learn what school is all about! I work with the youngest learners in a rural school setting. My students are a diverse group of young learners ages 4-5. Most come from low income homes. I work with some typically developing students, but I also have students with many special needs. Many of my students have speech and language needs, are deaf or hard of hearing, are on the Autism spectrum, have motor or sensory concerns, or are English Language Learners.
My Project
Most, if not all of my kiddos, get the wiggles at some point or another - they're kids! :) Sometimes movement breaks just aren't enough to satisfy those wiggles. Or sometimes a movement break just can't happen at that exact moment. What happens when those wiggles happen while you're working so hard on learning? Help me give my students some flexible seating options to satisfy those wiggles and make learning a little easier.
Learning to write, cut and color can prove to be very difficult and time consuming tasks for some children.
Throughout these learning processes, children need to be comfortable. Comfort means something different for each child and these flexible seating options in my classroom would allow my kiddos to choose a seating option that works for them - wiggles and all!
I have seen these seating options and the differences that they have made in other classrooms. I know they will do the same in ours!
