Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Reading Intervention Specialist in a Title 1 school. The students I serve are considered low income and 100% receive free lunch. Many of them come from single-parent households and do not have access to the materials needed to foster their academic growth.
At home they are surrounded by chaos and unknown.
They arrive everyday smiling and want to be good even though the odds are against them. Despite their circumstances, my students come to school ready and eager to learn. They inspire me to be my best and give as they do 100% all the time.
My Project
Flexible seating has numerous benefits inside the classroom. Flexible seating gives students choice. Choice to work in a small or large groups with other students. Allows for student collaboration to happen in all locations of the classroom. It is no secret some students are wiggle worms and need to move constantly. Flexible seating gives them that mobility because an uncomfortable student is a distracted student.
Most importantly, flexible seating is FUN.
Learning in the classroom needs to be engaging and fun for all students. By taking out the traditional chairs and replacing with colorful stools, and wobble chairs we are giving are students the resources they need to be successful.
