I love teaching 5th and 6th grade! My students are so fun and at the perfect age to still enjoy school, want to do their best and please the teacher, yet you can speak to them straightforward and they understand a little sarcasm too.
My 5th and 6th grade students are some of my favorite people, which is lucky for us all because we spend so much time together.
We live in a small town. Everybody knows everybody and a new student is a friend by the end of the day. We are together in class, then many of us are together in the evening supporting the activities of our school and community.
This year we have worked especially hard. We began a new math curriculum and it made us learn how to think differently and it was a lot of work! We learned how to trust each other and support each other and began to understand what it really means to think.
My Project
Being an educator is an ever-changing opportunity to make an impact in children's lives! I love teaching, but it is not a job that looks the same year after year. Every year is different and we grow and change as much as we hope our students do. In the past couple of years we've changed buildings, curriculum, and mindsets, but now its time to change up the learning environment in a big way...we've got a big dream!
I'd like to purchase 2 couches and 8 stools so students can choose from a variety of seating options during class time.
We hope this will help us accomplish 3 things. First, we will encourage improved collaboration and communication. Second, students who are comfortable stay calm, focused, and are more productive. Third, choices in seating provides sensory input for those who need it.
My co-teacher and I are so looking forward to the possibility of implementing flexible seating. With your help, we will continue to march with our students into the 21st century, preparing them to DREAM BIG!
