This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have been identified with mild/moderate learning disabilities. There are many levels in my classes. Some of the students read at a 1st grade level and some are closer to grade level but have behavioral issues and need a smaller classroom setting. Many of them are on free and/or reduced price lunch and have never been out of the city of Chino. I teach ELA and Reading to high school students.

I would like to continue my journey into flexible seating because I feel strongly that students who feel comfortable are more apt to enjoy reading.

My Project

I teach struggling high school students with special needs reading. I’m trying to create a classroom reading nook where they can relax and enjoy a book instead of being forced to sit at traditional desks! Most of my students don’t enjoy reading and are several grades below where they should be. It’s difficult for them to let go and relax because many of them put up a wall and have no hope that they can improve. I know they can but in order to get there they need to be comfortable and safe. Please help make my dream class come true!
