My students need adult and child size balance ball chairs to help them get their wiggles out while they learn. They also need surf portable lap desks so they can continue working when on the rug.
I teach a group of wonderful, creative, and able students with special needs. Our class serves students with a wide range of disabilities including severe learning disabilities, speech and language disorders, and intellectual disabilities.
Although I have a group of diverse students the one thing they have in common is that they are all AMAZING and EXTREMELY CAPABLE learners.
They are also reluctant readers and writers. Although I have students in grades k-4, most are reading on or below a 1st grade level. They need hands on and active lessons to get them engaged. I want them to be excited to learn!
My Project
I currently have 12 students grades kindergarten through 4th with diverse learning and cognitive challenges. The one commonality is that they are all movers and shakers, having trouble sitting still. Currently they can sit in school chairs, or on bean bags on the floor.
Providing them with more flexible seating choices will help them stay engaged while learning.
It also gives them ownership over their learning environment. These kids need every tool at their disposal to help them reach their goals. This would be a new and incredible tool!
Please consider giving these kids the "bounce" in my classroom. Balance ball chairs will provide them with this. When they need some quiet floor time, the portable lap desks will help them continue their work from the comfort of a beanbag chair. All together these tools will help my kiddos learn.
