Our class this year is a wonderful group of hard-working 4th-grade students who love to learn! We are energetic, fun-loving and want to achieve great success this year. We are a diverse population in an almost rural community.
Fourth grade is a place where we can foster relationships, identity and grow our self-esteem.
Learning is a central part of what we do each day. My students love to learn about different ways to make everyone feel accepted and safe in our community. We love to explore languages, cultures, and ways to explore the world from our classroom.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times I would like for them to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are only able to work at their desks or with clip boards on the floor. We also need space for our white boards, so sticky dots would create a friendly working environment with our circle table working spaces.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating in other teacher's classrooms when they are using flexible seats like balls, discs and stools. They will be given the ability to practice making good choices about where they sit and feel more comfortable in their work environment.
