Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a 3rd grade classroom in Antioch, CA. Our school is a Title I elementary school. My students are working on many skills, such as understanding routines and procedures. One thing my students do best is working as partners and in small groups. Having to sit in a desk can get the best of my students who need to stretch and move about. Many of my students enjoy laying on the floor as they do their work, but strain to look up at the whiteboards.
I believe that many of my students will work best with flexible seating where they can connect with each other in the way that works best for each student.
My students have shown me that they really enjoy the work they do but simply prefer to work in a comfortable setting. I want my students to be as comfortable as they can so they can focus on their learning.
My Project
During are rigorous math lessons and English Language Arts, students need the flexibility to stretch their legs and gain some circulation back into their minds, hands, and body. With these items for flexible seating, students can stretch and move about while they stay in their seats and focus on the content.
Flexible seating will allow my students to find a nice nook, or place in the room, where they feel is best for their own learning.
Students with flexible seating can easily work with partners or in small groups without having to move the clunky, heavy desks that are so uncomfortable. Flexible seating will be used for all subjects since it allows students to move without distracting others or themselves. They can stay on task and feel comfortable as they work.
