What is there not to love when you spend your day with 23 five year olds? Every day is a new learning experience filled with curiosity and eagerness to persevere! Teaching in an inner city school in upstate NY, I have found that children at this age are sponges, that are always eager to learn and explore new things!
I have 23 Kindergarten students coming from a variety of different economic and cultural backgrounds, 100% of whom receive free lunch.
This year I have 12 ENL students who speak a variety of languages. I am so excited to engage this year's class! My goal is to help each child move into the 21st century by providing a classroom rich in engaging, hands-on materials and lessons.
My Project
I would like to provide my class with an opportunity to decide on their own seating and where they would like to complete their work. Sitting in one chair throughout the day is not always comfortable and suitable for some children.
With the requested supplies, children in my class will have the opportunity to make their own choice in where they will complete their work.
5 and 6 year olds need to move around quite often. A chair is not always the best seating. I would like to provide an opportunity for my children to work in an area that works best for them. If they are comfortable, they will be more engaged and willing to do their best.
When children are comfortable they are calmer, focused, and ultimately more productive. With these items, my students will have the opportunity to decide if they would like to sit on wobble seats if they are feeling more active, wobble cushions which promotes active sitting, muscle strengthening, joint stabilization, or use the
