My students need an area where we can gather as a whole group for stories, sharing, and whole group lessons. An area rug would be a very comfortable, spacious, and safe way to come together.
My school has a very diverse population of students with varying social, emotional, socio-economic, and academic needs. Some of the students who enter kindergarten come with limited pre-school experience, some with no pre-school experience, and others have more than 2 years of preschool experience.
Many students need a high level of support for all of the diverse needs.
Our school qualifies for universal free breakfast and lunch and some students get bags of food to take home on the weekends. Despite their high needs, kindergarteners always have a positive, happy, and motivating attitude!
Coming into a classroom with flexible and comfortable seating, bright and motivating decorations, and student center materials helps my students stay focused and motivated on their learning! Having a special place to meet together in a whole group or in small groups will give my students an increased level of motivation to learn!
My Project
Providing flexible seating will help students who have some special needs with sensory needs and who have difficulty with traditional seating.
Flexible seating will give my students the ability to stay seated in a safe, individualized way while they work.
Students will be able to concentrate more easily, move while staying seated in a safe and appropriate way.
These flexible seating choices can be easily transported from one spot to another so students can use them in various areas of the classroom. These flexible seating options can also be carried to other classrooms such as music, art, library, and to assemblies.
