Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal as a teacher is to establish a home away from home in my room. I refuse to call it a classroom; it's more of a creative chaos zone. I want my students to feel this emotion every day as they come into my room. I take pleasure in creating a positive, comfortable space for my kids to learn. Having a flexible classroom in which my students can learn is my ultimate goal. All faculty tutor before the school day begins because many children are dropped off very early in the morning. Food baskets are created and distributed by faculty for our Title I school. There is a great need within the county to assist those around us.
My kids inspire me to do a better job each day and I must do my best to ensure they get the best version of me as possible.
Their inquisitive energy is contagious and I find myself constantly adapting and changing the way I teach, the way the room is set up and how I want the environment of my room to feel each day.
My Project
Teaching in an older building has its advantages and disadvantages. I love the old charm, but I need some modern amenities to create the learning environment I want and my students need. Desks with built in chairs is so last century!
Each piece of furniture and book has been meticulously thought of and desperately needed for my room.
I teach a variety of subjects. The Starbucks-like setting will be extremely inviting and ensure my students feel at ease in my room.
The chairs will be an a place for my students to go to brainstorm together, work collaboratively, or simply read.
Refugee is one of those life changing books that is desperately needed in today's world. Having my students identify with the characters in a novel is extremely important to me. A class set is so important so that they each have the ability to make the novel their own. I'm so excited for next year!
