Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are highly motivated, creative, and curious. They are involved in many activities that our beautiful school has to offer including Garden Club, Robotics, Photography, Speech Contest, Soccer and Basketball Teams, and more. They are motivated by hands on projects, peer collaboration, STEM, technology, and anything engaging that catches their eye.
Our diverse school is home to many military families, and it is amazing to hear their life stories from moving time after time while serving our country.
We also have many bilingual students, some of whom are enrolled in our successful Dual Immersion program. Since this school opened three years ago, students from around the community have come together to form new friendships. Our students arrive to school eager to learn and should be provided with the necessary tools to become lifelong learners.
My Project
Walk into a typical classroom and see students seated at their desks, each desk at the same height, and each with the same chair. Typical classrooms do not take into account how comfort may impact a child's ability to focus on their learning. Recent studies have shown that flexible seating benefits include burning more calories, expending excess energy, increasing motivation and engagement, and even improving core strength and overall posture.
With flexible seating options, my students will have the opportunity to sit where they please, making smart choices to improve their success as a learner.
No longer will they be expected to be cookie cutter students. Some will choose to sit on a stool, some on a cushion, some on an exercise ball, and some may choose simply to stand up!
Additionally, those who tend to fidget will benefit from products designed for silent fidgeting, which will allow them to expend their energy but in a safe and non-disruptive manner.
