A typical day in my classroom involves lots of student-centered activities. Students are consistently engaged in reading, writing, and creating projects that showcase their learning and creativity. I need your help providing them with the tools that are needed for an effective classroom!
Our school, located in the heart of the city, offers a unique experience for our students by allowing them to learn, explore, and grow in a safe environment.
Our goal is to prepare them for high-school, college, and beyond by teaching not only core curriculum but also life skills such as problem-solving, perseverance, and communication. Many of my students come from low-income, disadvantaged families, and often times, they do not have even the most basic school supplies. My goal is to provide them with whatever they need in order to be successful.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge and make choices about their own learning. Throughout a typical class period, particularly during independent work time, they often have the option to choose a seat or location in the classroom that works best for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of places in our room such as: at different seats, under tables, sitting or laying on the floor, or sitting on a couch. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when provided flexible seating options such as ball seats, cushions, and couches. Unfortunately, the furniture options we have had in the past easily become damaged, dirty, and unusable by the end of the school year (or even earlier in many cases!).
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make effective learning choices. The ball seats allow movement without disruption and are easy to move, store, and clean. The stackable floor seats will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options without the hassle of fabric to wash or stuffing to replace. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
My students will be absolutely thrilled to have these new flexible seating options to help make our classroom a more comfortable & inviting learning environment for all!
