About My Students

One students led the development of this project, Irene a 12th grader. This student took many years to come out of her shell, she is amazing and bright. Irene believes that every student should have an opportunity to learn in a comfortable environment.

My Digital Media class was tasked to brainstorm and research ideas that will change their lives if they were funded. Each student was required to brainstorm an idea, have it approved, research every aspect of the idea, develop a presentation for the class and then vote on the project they would like to be submitted for funding. The class originally started with 24 ideas, Irene's idea was one of the few students project that won the class vote.

Irene's win tasked her to continue her research on flexible seating. The class was able to team up but Irene had such a passion for the project she chose to continue it on her own. She believes that a students environment can change there desire to learn.

Students will learn a sense of ownership. This project was a class assignment and the students had to decide what can change their school or classroom environment making it better, if it was funded. These students worked on this project for weeks. They researched, presented, competed, researched some more, developed power point presentations and then they competed again. As their projects get funded they are realizing people care enough to listen. They also learned that they worked hard for their funding and the items they are receiving to make their classroom better and not mine the teacher but theirs as a student.

In Their Own Words

We are hoping that flexible seating will offer comfort to our extended class periods. Due to Harvey our class periods are extended and many of us do not function well in hard plastic chairs. We would like the opportunity for comfort while we learn. The ability to bounce if i'm board or frigidity and roll around if allowed.

We will take pride in our furniture, care for it and teach the incoming classes how to do so as well. We believe it takes each student to care for our community and our current community is our classroom. We will help the teacher develop a slide for the first day of school introducing our selves and encouraging students to care for what we leave behind.

We are hoping for comfort during our extended class periods. Due to Harvey our class periods are extended and many of us do not function well in hard plastic chairs. We would like the opportunity for comfort while we learn. Knowing school is important we believe comfort is important as well, why not combine the two.
