Ms. Martin from Seattle WA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students lap desks and floor seats so that they can have a comfortable and focused work space anywhere in our classroom.

My students are curious, driven, critical thinkers who love exploring and learning about the world around them! Students in our school speak 20 different languages and bring truly diverse perspectives and experiences to class with them each day!
Many students in my classroom have experienced trauma.
My students are also diverse in their needs and styles as learners. In my class, students with learning disabilities, neuro-diverse students, English learning students, and gifted learners are all included and celebrated as a part of the community.
This year my group of students is especially social and active. They enjoy working together, and we use flexible grouping to make sure they all get a chance to be leaders and learners along with their peers.
With your support, I will be able to make my classroom environment more conducive to flexible grouping and multiple learning styles.
More and more workers are choosing not to sit at a desk all day. Flexible and collaborative work spaces are becoming the norm in the corporate world to maximize creative thinking, collaboration, and efficiency. Why shouldn't our students get the same opportunities?
My second graders are active and collaborative.
They need to be able to move around our learning space and work with peers during the day instead of being confined to one desk.
By seeking out help from classroom resources and their peers, my second graders are taking charge of their own learning. Flexible seating options allow each student to identify what works best for them. This gives them the power to create their ideal learning environment.
Each day in my classroom, students use clipboards and sit or lie down on the carpet in order to be closer to resources on the walls or to work with peers. Having floor seats and lap desks will allow students to save time fidgeting and get right to work! Research shows that having a flexible learning and work environment reduces stress and increases productivity. I want to empower my students to become independent learners by giving them the tools they need to do their best, and your support is crucial in helping me provide these tools.
