Fifth grade can be challenging for students, so I want to provide space for them to move and work comfortably. My students need flexible seating so they can focus and do their best while meeting the needs of their bodies to move.
Kids deserve to feel safe and respected in the classroom; flexible seating is one way to provide that.
I want my students to know that they can do what is best for them and their learning by providing them with multiple options on how to work. This principle teaches them how to advocate for themselves as a learner.
My Project
My students work in groups with hands-on math and science activities. I want to provide flexible seating options to allow students to advocate for their needs and take control of their learning. The Gaiam balance balls provide wiggle relief, padded stools provide seated stability, the bean bags provide comfort and support, and the floor cushions allow students to work wherever they can focus best.
Flexible seating allows for students to use their energy in a positive way and focus on their learning.
These items will not only provide for my class this year, but for many years to come. I cannot wait to provide these opportunities for my students to take ownership of their learning and feel respected that they have a choice in how to work.
