Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low socioeconomic neighborhood in Las Vegas, Nevada, which results in little to none of the basic supplies being provided for them. Regardless of their backgrounds, my first grade students come to school every day with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn.
Although research shows living in a low socioeconomic neighborhood correlates with lower educational achievement, my students are the exception.
My students work hard and strive to do their personal best each day. They are kind, caring, inquisitive and have great aspirations for their futures.
My Project
Please help me introduce flexible seating into my classroom! Many of my students have a hard time staying seated and focusing their energy on their work, even with the many brain breaks and movement activities interspersed throughout the day.
Using wobble seats, stools and balance balls will allow for movement while improving their posture and core strength needed for sitting.
The materials I chose will give the students a way to release some energy, in appropriate and acceptable ways, while still staying on task. With the different seating options, they will be able to choose what works best for them, increasing their success in school.
