Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the oldest public charter school in San Diego. Most of my students are bilingual and are constantly working hard to build their English language skills. We are a Title I school that serves a small community in City Heights. 95% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We serve an extremely diverse student body, representing more than 20 different home languages.
I have the sweetest group of 6th graders this year!
My students range in academic ability from kindergarten to 6th grade. We spend most of the day learning in small groups and reading as much as we can about the world.
Our favorite part of the day is when we are all together, relaxing on our pillows, using flexible seating, and reading out loud.
My Project
Flexible seating is an important modification for all learners. When student's are comfortable, they learn more. Whether they are reading, writing, conducting experiments, having deep conversations, or solving math problems, they need to be supported. Flexible seating supports their minds and bodies all day.
It is an amazing thing to see what students can accomplish when they are truly comfortable in their own classroom.
I have students who need to bounce, lay down, bend, and be comfy to show their true academic potential. I want my students to realize how much I care for their independent learning needs, including seats.
