My students need wobble, bouncing chairs and stools for flexible seating. My students need the option to sit, stand, wobble, or bend while they are doing their work.
The students in our school are a part of a family. Currently there are students in my classroom who are energetic, highly active, creative, and are uniquely motivated to learn. They all have a passion and drive that is infectious. Despite their various demographic backgrounds, they all support each other. They are special because they are our future. Their ideas and abilities are amazing. They will definitely be successful, career bound citizens.
The students in my classroom love the idea of flexible seating.
They choose to sit on the floor with whiteboards and pillows instead of desks. They were super excited to see tables lowered so they could sit on the floor. It created a new, interesting, and engaging environment, which is what they see every day outside of school.
My students need diversity through compassion and understanding that not every student learns the same exact way. They lift each other up through our school life principles and the magic triad. My students are learning valuable life skills in first grade that I hope will follow them forever!
My Project
Flexible seating and classroom management create a positive working environment for students. The materials I have requested for donations will help improve and maintain classroom management. These materials will help complete the flexible seating arrangement in my classroom. I have been slowly implementing this idea into my classroom by lowering tables, allowing students to use pillows and whiteboards instead of student desks and chairs to complete their work. More than half of my students stand behind their desks with their feet on the seat portion of their chair simply because they focus and work better in this position. The other half of my students sit on the end of their chair and bounce almost until they fall off.
At this age students are challenged with learning academics and behaviors.
The idea of flexible of seating creates a positive working environment for my students, giving them freedom of choice with positive limitations while I get peace of mind in safety, all while behavioral challenges are decreased and both parties are able to focus on lifelong skills. These stools, wobble chairs, and balance ball seats will also help students with disabilities who need additional options for seating.
