My students are a wonderful group of kids. They are eager to learn and work hard. All their unique personalities come together to make learning fun and exciting in our classroom.
Sixth grade math concepts can be a challenge when compared to previous years.
Students learn a lot of new things and are required to utilize higher level thinking skills.
Math class is one hour long. Some of my students have a lot of energy, which makes it difficult to stay focused for that amount of time. I continue to try and make math class engaging and fun to keep their attention.
My Project
I utilize a variety of flexible seating options. I have yoga balls, bean bag chairs, and a church bench. However, some students love to stand. This standing desk would change my classroom!
Flexible seating allows students to use a variety of places to sit and work.
It gives them ownership and the ability to take charge of their learning. My student's are expected each year to sit for longer amounts of time. They love being able to choose how they will be most productive.
By offering students one more unique choice, they will be able stay on task and take ownership of their learning.
The standing desk will give students who need to move a bit more a spot to allow it with a greater sensory output.
