My Students
The most exciting thing about teaching at a Creative Arts Magnet this year is that I have lots of flexibility with teaching my students through the gift of the arts. Students learn best when their learning experiences are tailored lessons to meet their individual learning strengths and styles. Using the Theory of Multiple Intelligences within the classroom helps me to recognize that each student has different ways of learning and intelligences that they use in their daily lives. While some can learn very well in a linguistically-based environment (reading and writing), others are better taught through mathematical-logic based learning. Most people benefit most body-kinesthetic intelligence (learning by doing with the hands). Each person can possess bits of the of every intelligence, but there is always a more dominant, intelligence present. Teaching in a small, close-knit, economically challenged community definitely has its advantages and disadvantages, and I take this mission to heart. I have been in this district for 4 years, and I already know many of the families that attend in our school.
My Project
This project will provide wobble stools and stability balls for my students use during independent work and in student groups.
Having a choice of where and how you learn in your reading can have a powerful impact on how a child performs in the classroom.
Students love to read and use technology within different classroom library area but they don't have many options to sit around the room other than their desks.
Your generous donation to this project will help my students be lifelong learners, they will enjoy having additional seating so they can have a more relaxing and productive learning time in the classroom, they will be proud to use their new seatings choices in our classroom.
By having the opportunity for students to choose wobble stools and stability balls rather than the "cold hard" regular student chairs for even a small portion of the day is something that they will look forward to and it will make a huge difference in their comfort and hopefully increase their levels of learning.
