I love my kids. They are inquisitive, inspiring, and independent thinkers who come to school everyday looking to learn. I teach at a Title I school, where over 80% of the school receives for free or reduced-price lunch. My classroom is a safe, consistent environment for my kids- the place where they can learn, grow and be their best selves. This makes it frustrating that I can't provide them the type of flexible seating suited to their learning needs.
Many students in my classroom want to lay under their desks or stand up throughout they day because they are restless sitting in their standard desk and chair.
These determined learners deserve more comfortable and productive options for their seating.
My Project
Flexible seating empowers students by giving them a choice in their learning environment. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to determine for themselves a location in the classroom that best suits their learning needs. It is also important that my students be comfortable while they work. Currently, my students can only lay under their desks or stand up during lessons when they do not want to sit in their standard desk and chair. My students are always more engaged when they can choose where, how and in what position they are learning.
The chairs, stools, and glider I have chosen will increase my students' focus and academic achievement by allowing them a cozier and more satisfying learning environment.
