Flexible Seating for Flexible Learning in an Inclusion Classroom

My Project

Our special education department is getting an opportunity to expand to allow for a better learning environment for our students with disabilities. As a low-income, rural school district, we have limited resources and high needs. Currently, myself and another Intervention Specialist as well as our Paraprofessional share one classroom. This year we have 18 students and only 12 seats for students to sit in. Next year our numbers are projected to grow to at least 26 students with the same 12 seats available for students. Due to this, our district has graciously allowed for us to have 2 classrooms next school year, giving us the room we need for our students to have a safe and comfortable learning environment. This also means that we need to furnish this new classroom to meet the needs of our student population.

By helping us get new furniture for our new classroom you are helping to give our students the resources and space they need in order to be a part of a flexible and inclusive learning environment.

As an Intervention Specialist the students that I work with require extra support in order to be successful in the general education classroom. For this reason, they spend a large amount of time in my classroom in order to complete coursework and receive the extra assistance and support that they need. Many of these high-school aged students still require sensory input and flexible learning locations in order to be successful within the school environment. The flexible seating options included in this project will allow for them to learn comfortably. The storage will provide opportunities for resources to be readily available for students.
