Help me give my students a flexible, adapted learning environment! Many of my students struggle to sit in a chair all day due to sensory needs, so providing them with seating choices will support their learning!
I am a second-year special education teacher at a charter school serves our students through individualized education and supports. Throughout my day, I work with 10 amazing kiddos that all have special needs, most prominently autism and ADHD. These kids are filled with love for learning and for one another.
My students are amazing, kind, and full of potential, but they require significant support to access their curriculum in a way that works for them.
They are funny, sweet, and full of energy. They love learning from and growing with one another, but they each have their own individual obstacles. They need support in regulating their sensory needs and their emotions, support with communication, as well as the materials that would allow them to engage fully in their learning.
My Project
In my special education classroom, I serve 10 third and fourth grade students with Autism and ADHD. We focus on academics as well as social and emotional development and self-regulation.
My students love to learn and grow, but their sensory needs can inhibit their ability to fully access their education.
By providing my students with a variety of choices of locations where they can complete their work, it will help motivate their learning and allow them to choose a location that meets their sensory needs at different times throughout the day.
