My students are eager learners who love reading and learning. My students read independently for at least 20 minutes per day and also participate in listen to reading or partner reading for another 20 minutes per day. They love learning about the world around them. We are a Title I school, inner city school. Our whole school qualifies for a program that allows all students to get free breakfast and lunch. My students are the best and they deserve to get the best education possible!
My Project
"Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve" Roger Lewin. I love giving my students opportunities to solve their own problems as well as opportunities to make choices throughout their day. I would not (and do not) function well in an environment where I have no flexibility and no say in what I do throughout the day. Students also do not thrive when they are given no choice. My students need more options so that they can make better choices during their day. My students get to solve the problem of how they best focus within my classroom by choosing their seats throughout the day. A student might choose to sit on the carpet during read to self but then when they have to write they realize the carpet is not the right spot so they choose to sit at a table. My students thrive when they are given control of their learning. This project will complete our flexible seating options within the classroom and give students more options of how to solve the problem of being able to focus and learn the best that they can.
By having a couch to sit on during read to self students can be comfortable as they learn to love reading and going on adventures through the world with books.
Having a seating option that allow students to move like ball chairs gives my active students the opportunity to learn and move simultaneously. Having a hanging chair will get students excited about being able to sit and read in isolation. Developmentally many 2nd graders enjoy being enclosed in small spaces this will give those students the chance to be enclosed and feel safe when they need comfort.
