My Students
I am a second grade teacher to a fantastic group of students. I truly have a diverse and unique group of rock stars. A group of students that include students in the Autism spectrum, a few with learning disabilities, a student with cerebral palsy, and a few with attention deficit disorder however, they are spectacular. My students are bright and active, inquisitive and curious, they keep me on my toes but it is well worth it.
My students are eager to learn and are full of joy everyday.
It is incredible to see them work and help each other. They are happy to share each other's successes and are truly sadden when something goes wrong.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to feel comfortable in their work environment. Students are expected to sit on a hard, sometimes broken chair, for 8 hours a day. I have a fantastic group of Rock Stars that have challenges, some can not sit on a chair. I see them sitting on the edge of the chair because it is too hard. I see them standing because they truly feel uneasy on their chair.
Giving my students a choice of seating will make a world of difference.
I will allow them to choose their seating and although the traditional seating will be available, I believe my young students will choose wisely. I will use these seats as a tool, not only for the children with physical challenges but for all students. I will use the balance balls for the students that have difficulty sitting in their chairs during independent time. The wobble chairs will be placed in the centers, along with the traditional seats, that will replace the broken ones. The wobble cushions and the lap desk will travel around the classroom in order to meet to meet my students needs. These seats will help my class thrive.
