My students need a large area rug, assorted comfy chairs, and the cushions to start our flexible seating options. Their creativity will be enhanced by comfortable and appropriate seating.
Many of my students, come from low income, single parent, transient families. They face many challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Some have already been through more than their share of difficulties. I want my classroom to always be a welcoming, secure and invigorating environment. The children know that I am always there for them, no matter the situation; academic and/or personal. They are excited to be at school!
I want my room to have that warm, inviting feel with lots of work space.
From the minute they walk in my room I focus on the positive and the potential that they have. Most need that positive reinforcement, and given the sense that they are important and can do anything they set their minds to. They know I can't always help with their home lives but they also know I can help make their experience during the school day positive and fulfilling.
We have a very diverse school. We are ever evolving to provide the best learning environments possible. I'm hoping to inspire all the young minds, from the challenged to the accomplished. That with creativity and inspiration we can succeed!
My Project
The materials I'm requesting are for the flexible seating idea that I want to use in my classroom .Research has shown that students that have the flexibility of choosing where and how they want to sit allows them to stay engaged longer in their learning and accomplish more. Right now they grab clipboards and either sit or lay on the floor to work in the space we have available.
It's amazing how more engaged the students are and better focused on getting their work done.
They like being given the opportunity to make their own choices and follow through on making the right choice. I'm so excited to give my students additional seating options with the products I've selected.The floor rug will be placed at the front of the room as our gathering spot for class meetings or whole group lessons. The beanbags and comfy chairs are for additional comfy seating ,off the floor. I will be lowering some of my tables to accommodate students who want to sit on a portable pillow at a table.
I have seen, by giving students some options and letting them make the appropriate choice - what works for them, has created a very positive atmosphere.
