My students need a variety of seating options (stools and wobble cushions) in order to help them stay focused, while taking into consideration those first grade wiggles.
The students in my classroom come from many different backgrounds, but once they arrive at school we become part of the same team. I strive to make my classroom a safe place for students to feel free to be themselves and become a community of learners in a place full of laughter and fun. I want my students to be excited about coming into my classroom every single day.
Each student in my classroom is a unique individual with unique learning needs.
As their teacher, it is my duty to expose these children to as many learning experiences as possible.
We are a Title I school. This means the school provides free breakfast and lunch to more than half of the children who are coming from low-income families.
My Project
My classroom would greatly benefit from some flexible seating options for all of those different types of learners that walk through my door each day. First graders are movers and shakers and the more options that I can offer them throughout the day, the more students are able to focus.
Regular classroom chairs just aren’t conducive to a first grader’s electric energy.
I am requesting five wobble cushions for our word work center and five colorful plastic stack stools to enhance our guided reading table. The smallest changes throughout the classroom can help the greatest wiggler concentrate and put that energy into their school day. We also need mobile organizer drawers that are accessible to every student, so that our class can stay organized and offer work at a multitude of levels. The magnetic hooks will add another method of display for the students and be a way to add clear and specific directions for each center.
