My first grade classroom has an amazing mix of students who come from all over the world with their diverse backgrounds and languages. The common thread through them all is their love of learning and their eagerness to achieve. Being that they are 6 and 7 years old they are highly active. Finding a place in our classroom that is comfortable and fits their learning needs helps them stay engaged and motivated to learn.
My students are very active authors, readers, mathematicians, scientists, explorers, historians, engineers, problem solvers, and investigators.
My Project
These wobble chairs, balance cushions, balance ball chairs, floor cushions and bouncy bands will help my first graders have choice in their alternative seating.
The flexible seating will allow my students to stay focused and engaged in the learning while still being able to get their wiggles out!
The students will be able to choose a spot that works best for them and their learning. They can move to a table or area that will work best for them. After 14 years of teaching I have seen how choice and differentiation is key to a student's success. Flexible seating gives my wiggly first graders this daily choice and differentiation. Students need movement in order to help them stay focused. The flexible seating will keep them focused, motivated and attentive in their journey of being lifelong learners!
